The important work done at Hope House is supported by funding from a variety of sources, such as generous individual donors, corporate sponsors, workplace giving campaigns and philanthropic foundations. In-kind donations, such as food and hygiene supplies, also help make the day-to-day operations possible.

These sources, however, are only part of what keeps Hope House up and running. Money from the federal, state, and local levels of government also plays a key role in Hope House's continued service to Milwaukee.

You see them holding signs by the highway asking for money. You see them sleeping on park benches. You want to help, but you’re not sure how. Here are some ideas for helping the homeless in our community this summer—in big and small ways.

1.     Refer them to 2-1-1. The best way to help homeless people access services is by encouraging them to call 2-1-1 on any phone.  211 is a centralized system by which people in need are connected with appropriate services—everything from shelter to food to emergency day care. We are pleased to have this system in Milwaukee, and it is the best way for anyone to access services, including Hope House. Visit IMPACT 211 to learn more.

You may or may not know that Hope House started a brand new housing program in January—the first of its kind in Milwaukee, WI. “Rapid rehousing” is a new national model for ending homeless that involves placing a homeless family or individual into permanent housing as soon as possible after they become homeless. Through federal and county funding, Hope House began its Safe Landing rapid rehousing program to meet the needs of homeless families in Milwaukee.
