Spring is finally here...

...which means our youth are getting excited for summer programs here at Hope House!

Garden Club members are currently planning for their Spring Planting Party coming up on May 22 from 7-9pm. At the Planting Party, they will be joined by residents from the Single Floor and volunteers from the Sole Sisters Club. The youth are hoping to have enough donations of plant starts to start the gardens off right! Plants they would like to have include: herbs like rosemary, thyme,  basil, mint, and cilantro; vegetables like peppers, tomatoes, and chilis and flowers like roses, lilies, zinnias and impatiens. If you wish to donate plant starts, please donate during the week prior to May 22nd. If donations of live plants are hard to fit into your schedule,  gift certificates to local nurseries, or garden stores will also be helpful in getting Garden Club members into the gardens this year.

Another club popular among the Shining Stars Youth is Bike Club. Bike builder and architect Emmett Gross will be back again this year to get kids fired up about bike building, bike repair and ways of modifying a bike to make it your own. We can't wait to see what the Bike Club builds this summer! Want to support their learning? Consider donating gift certificates for bike tools, lubricants, or solvents from local bike shops.

New this year is the Shining Stars Teen Board, consisting of six teens, two parents and a local business owner. The Teen Board will meet regularly at local establishments to connect with business owners and work towards their goal of planning events for the Hope House Street Fair, coming up in August. Want to help support them in their planning? Consider donating coffee cards/gift certificates to coffee shops or restaurants in Milwaukee's Fifth Ward area so they can build another successful Street Fair event in August.
